12th February 2023

Tena Koutou e te Whanau o Matipo,

Following on from my earlier notification this morning. After meeting with Primary Principals and the Ministry of Education, Bruce Adin (Commissioner) and taking all the advice from AEM. The following decision has been made to close Matipo Road School for a duration of one day – Monday 13th February. As a cluster of schools on the Peninsula – All Peninsula Schools (Rutherford, Peninsula and Te Atatu Intermediate) are also closing on Monday 13th February.

We will review our decision depending on the severity of the cyclone and effects on Auckland Roads. We will advise the community no later than 3pm on Monday 13th February regarding school opening on Tuesday 14th February.

This decision is primarily made to ensure the health and safety of all staff, tamariki and whanau at Matipo School. In addition, we will not be providing online learning during this time. The reason for this decision is many of our staff and whanau may be affected by the impending cyclone and may be without power and or internet. We cannot confidently ensure all tamariki will have access to a device and or internet during this time.

We appreciate your cooperation at this time.

Stay safe everyone, look after yourself, your whanau and your neighbours. Please do not hesitate to contact us should you need support.

Nga mihi Nunui,

Jonnie Black
